Dubai (UAE), 8 December 2014— Relaxing on Koh Samui’s best sunset beach is just one of the highlights at Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts’ latest Thai property. federiqueActress and philanthropist, Eva Longoria and latin star and UNICEF ambassador, Ricky Martin both co-chaired the 5th annual Global Gift Gala in London. The philanthropic platform was created by both founders of Global Gift Foundation, Maria Bravo and Alina Peralta. An initiative celebrated in several parts of the world, Paris, Cannes, Marbella, London, Mexico and Dubai in support of local and international foundations.The evening was supported by luxury watch manufacturer Frederique Constant Geneve.

Attendees of the evening included; international fashion designer and Goodwill Ambassador for the UN’S UNAIDS campaign, Victoria Beckham, who was awarded the Global Gift Philanthropeneur Award for her dedication towards charitable work through her success as an Entrepreneur and Philanthropist.

 

The evening raised over a staggering £300,000, which will go onto benefit The Eva Longoria Foundation – helping women and children in the Latino community through education and entrepreneurship; the Ricky Martin Foundation, whose mission is to stop human trafficking in minors; and The Global Gift Foundation which supports vulnerable women and children across the globe. In particular this year The Global Gift Foundation will be helping the city of Malaga, declared by UNICEF just last week the poorest city in Europe, where hundreds of children are starving daily.

During the past 5 five years, the Global Gift Foundation has donated hundreds of thousands of pounds to 10 fiscally responsible foundations. These funds have been used to change the lives of hundreds of children and families, being used over a broad range of projects helping causes such as, cancer treatment for children in the UK, emergency aid to the Philippines, life changing operations for disabled children in the UK and other European Countries, microloans for women in need of help, and many more.

Eva Longoria said: ‘I would like to thank everyone for their generous donations tonight; we raised an impressive amount of money that will go on to support the important work our foundations do. It was also a great pleasure to present my dear friend Victoria Beckham with the Global Gift Philanthropeneur Award for her exceptional charitable work’.

Beneath the magic of precious stones lies stunning mechanical virtuosity

Frédéric Jouvenot graces the Fine Watchmaking garden with the blossoming of an unprecedented complication: Surya, the world’s first watch to show the hours by means of 12 jumping petals. Crafted in pink sapphires, the latter change colour to depict the cycles of day and night while displaying the upcoming hour and the hour that has just elapsed. Like historical automata, the secret of this spectacular corolla in motion can be found in the most complex mechanism, concealed beneath the central minutes disc. An inner case placed at the heart of the watch comprises a hundred or so parts – including 24 jewels activating the jumping petals – cleverly interacting to create the magic of Surya.

An original take on time

Image_FJFrédéric Jouvenot is the story of a gifted watchmaker who for many years worked behind the scenes for the most prestigious names in watchmaking. In 2008, he decided to create his own brand and presented the first ever chronograph with a self-winding system on the dial side. The destiny of the youthful Manufacture was sealed as inseparably bound up with technical innovation. Nonetheless, creations bearing the Frédéric Jouvenot are not just about technical innovation, since the man himself is a refined aesthete who draws inspiration form art, nature and architecture. The journey began with building design concepts depicting the symbolic essence of everlasting bonds. The platinum bond, a soft contoured design form, did seem to converge from a series of evolutionary refinements, making it versatile to women’s and men’s jewellery. The intent of every piece in Evara is to symbolically create a bond representing the convergence of two families and subsequently building new relationships. The strands are versatile elements that could take any form such as ropes, links, chains all depicting the confluence of families.”

Speaking on Evara, Actress Amrita Puri said, “I think Platinum Evara is a great way for parents to bless a newly married couple with everlasting love. Phenomenally successful, Montegrappa’s Batman pen collection has inspired a range of writing instruments sure to delight any comic book fan with a love for objects related to favourite characters. The Penguin
, naturally, commands a black pen with the very pinstripes that adorn his trousers, the villain posed on the clip with umbrella held aloft, and the umbrella logo gracing the cap’s top.


The all-green pen celebrating The Riddler boasts a question mark on the cap’s top and the same inquisitive punctuation all over the barrel and cap.

Controversial artist Madame Allsorts boldly takes on fashions biggest names with satirical new “Wintour Wonderland” Christmas range, from a coke-snorting Kate Moss to Cara Delevingne, the Kardashians / Jenners and Anna Wintour a regular in the enfant terrible’s network.

The range which includes a beautiful gown, sweatshirt,pocket squares, a silk scarf and Christmas cards, takes potshots at what Allsorts regards as a tiresomely predictable and self-serving industry, brimming with cliques and cliches.

Madam Allsorts has already achieved notoriety with her “anti-fashion” couture which includes shocking prints of penis hotdogs, vagina apples and “I blagged this for my dog” slogan sweatshirts.

In a first for the artist, Allsorts makes a debut in one of her own designs, desperately trying to escape the tracks of Wintour’s sleigh while clutching a lump of coal and a copy of the Rogue magazine. Wintour has previously featured in the designer’s “Spring, Summer, Autumn, Wintour” sweatshirts, which seized headlines when they were unveiled during the New York Fashion Week on a “fash-mob” of the Editor’s lookalikes.

It’s the kind of acerbic swipe at the fashion industry that has quickly become Madame Allsorts’ trademark, and is sure to ruffle the feathers of those featured.

Michel Gascard, who was auditioned by Maurice Béjart in 1973 and had an exceptional 20-year career as an international dancer, runs the school today in accordance with the renowned choreographer’s wishes.

 

Following an extremely selective auditioning process, only about 20 students out of 200 candidates are chosen to take up the opportunity of a multidisciplinary education in line with the Rudra Béjart School criteria. They come from all over the world with a single aim: to become professional dancers.

 

For two years, they receive training in the form of various “ateliers” (workshops) in classical ballet and modern dance, music and theater education, martial arts, circus arts, improvisation and choreographic composition. This program of ateliers is complemented by original productions performed in Switzerland and internationally.

 

For part of the year, they work alongside the professional dancers of the Béjart Ballet Lausanne. The experience serves as an inspiration, and sometimes they have the chance to take part in the Company’s productions. It is then, as they perform Maurice Béjart’s ballets side by side with senior dancers, that all their dreams become reality.

 

The 40 or so young people attending the school, aged between 16 and 20, have chosen the most difficult of artistic paths: they study 6 days a week, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., constantly challenging the excellence of their work. But as Maurice Béjart so rightly put it: “To be a dancer, you must be part nun, part boxer! ”

 

At the end of the training, they join the Béjart Ballet Lausanne or other prestigious companies located around the world. Since the creation of the School in 1992, several hundred “Rudrists” have gone on to work in companies across the 5 continents as dancers, teachers, choreographers and directors.
