MONTEGRAPPA UNVEILS GENIO CREATIVO: ANTONIO CANOVA

To honour the world’s greatest artists, writers and thinkers, Montegrappa created the Genio Creativo series of pens. Each represents the achievements of an intellectual or artistic giant in a writing instrument that embodies the spirit of a specific work, as interpreted by Montegrappa’s artisans. Joining writer and philosopher Kahlil Gibran and the artist Vecellio Tiziano, known as Titian, is the sculptor ANTONIO CANOVA.

ANTONIO CANOVA (1 November 1757 – 13 October 1822) was an Italian sculptor famous for his work in marble. Often regarded as the greatest of the neoclassical artists, his work was inspired by the Baroque and the classical revival, but made more contemporary by dispensing with the melodrama of the former and adding a human element to the latter.

A limited edition of 260 fountain pens and 260 rollerball pens, the exact number of years since Canova’s birth will be offered with polished bronze trim, black resin and a pen barrel made in a special marble composite, depicting in miniature his famous sculpture The Graces, or “Le Grazie”. A further 12 fountain and 12 rollerball pens will be produced with solid 18k gold trim, representing the number of collaborators who worked with Canova.

Recalling the visual presence of Canova’s sculptures, the marble element is naturally grey. According to legend, Canova would pass over the freshly-chiselled, once-white stone with a cloth soaked with water, the same one used to wash the sculpting tools. The stone would absorb the dirt and acquire a more natural look.

Further details paying homage to Canova are the signature clip in the form of a pleated drape with which the artist used to clad his models, while the bronze or gold trim enriched with decorative motifs often crowning antique amphorae. The Genio Creativo Canova Fountain pen is piston-fed, and the nib is in 18k gold, engraved with the same symbol as the cap top, signifying the heraldic coat of arms of the family.

UNVEILS NEW SUITE CATEGORIES AND GUEST EXPERIENCES

SINGAPORE, 24 October 2017 – Raffles Singapore announces its up-coming reopening that is planned for the second half of 2018. Since February 2017, the iconic heritage hotel has embarked on a careful and sensitive phased restoration. Its reopening will see the introduction of exquisite new suite categories, vibrant lifestyle experiences and refreshed dining concepts.

New suite categories

For more than a century, Raffles Singapore has offered its well-travelled guests luxurious all-suite accommodations. The restoration will update its distinctive suites with new amenities and technology while maintaining the sense of space and colonial ambience.

When Raffles Singapore reopens, it will have three new suite categories: Residence Suites, Promenade Suites and Studio Suites. The total suite count increases from its existing 103 suites to 115 suites.

The new Residence Suites, comprising four 1-bedroom and one 2-bedroom suites, will be located in the Raffles Arcade and are named after famous local cinemas during the early to mid-1900s. This is in homage to the days when the neighbourhood was known as “The Place of Cinemas”. Suites names are Alhambra Suite, Diamond Suite, Marlborough Suite, Odeon Suite and Theatre Royal Suite.

Intimately nestled in the front-most corner of the Main Building are two new Promenade Suites that overlook Beach Road. A tribute to the late 1800s era when Raffles Singapore faced the beachfront, the suites will be named Lady Mountbatten Suite and Lady Sophia Suite, which were converted from existing boardrooms.

  • Lady Mountbatten was the Countess of Burma and wife of Lord Louis Mountbatten who was the Earl of Burma, last Viceroy of India and also Southeast Asia’s Supreme Allied Commander during the Second World War. In September 1945, Lord Mountbatten was in Singapore to witness the surrender of the Japanese Forces.

  • Lady Sophia was the wife of Sir Stamford Raffles, the founder of Modern Singapore, and for whom Raffles Hotel Singapore is named after.

The new Studio Suites that are being added aim to complement the array of suites in the Main Building, enveloped by the colonial charm of the Grand Lobby.

Raffles Singapore will continue to provide existing suite categories including:

  • Presidential Suites
  • Grand Hotel Suites
  • Palm Court Suites
  • Courtyard Suites
  • State Room Suites, formerly known as Raffles Inc. State Room Suites. The renaming reflects the conversion of the workspace into a parlour as well as the spaciousness of the suite.

Raffles Arcade: A lifestyle destination for the community and Singapore

Once reopened, the Raffles Arcade will showcase social spaces and a variety of lifestyle experiences. This includes a refreshed Raffles Gift Shop that will house a History Gallery to illustrate the heritage of Raffles Singapore. The Arcade will also be home to a brand-new Raffles Spa, a holistic sanctuary for hotel residents and the community to escape the bustle of the city.

“The History Gallery exhibits the hotel’s heritage over the past 130 years, and highlights the role Raffles Singapore played as a landmark in the country, and also in the region,” explained Christian Westbeld, General Manager, Raffles Singapore. “We are confident the local community will enjoy the refreshed facilities within the arcade that would rejuvenate the experiences within our neighbourhood.”

 

Signature dining experiences at Raffles

Signature restaurants and bars since the 1900s, Long Bar, Tiffin Room and Writers Bar, will continue to be a distinct part of Raffles Singapore dining experiences when the hotel reopens.

Home of the Singapore Sling for over a hundred years, the Long Bar’s plantation-inspired décor will be refreshed, and the famous Long Bar counter restored. Visitors and guests will be welcomed to continue the tradition of throwing peanuts on the floor as they sip on a chilled glass of hand-shaken Singapore Sling.

A part of Raffles’ history since 1892, Tiffin Room will continue to serve up delectable North Indian cuisine. Offering authentic specialties served in Tiffin boxes, it will also present an interactive dining experience with tableside service by chefs, complete with freshly ground spices to enhance the occasion. The restored interior décor includes reinstating the wooden floorboards in Tiffin Room to bring back features from the early 1900s based on research by our heritage consultants.

Furthermore, the signature Afternoon Tea will now be served at the new lounge in the Grand Lobby, allowing guests to enjoy a quintessential Raffles dining experience amidst the soft daylight streaming in from the skylight.

Established as a tribute to famous writers that have come through the doors of Raffles Singapore over the years, Writers Bar will be expanded to a full bar and be the place for bespoke cocktails, discreet elegance and intimate conversations.

New event spaces for weddings and social gatherings

Jubilee Hall has been converted into a new 300-guest ballroom, named Jubilee Ballroom as a tribute to the Jubilee Theatre, originally a cinema in the 1930s at the same location. Elegant and sophisticated in hues of cream and gold, complimented with an air-conditioned pre-event foyer, the Jubilee Ballroom will be the ideal venue for weddings and social galas.

All other event spaces will be refreshed, including the East India Room, Casuarina Suite as well as outdoor venues Palm Garden, The Lawn and Gazebo. The previous ballroom has been renamed Palm Ballroom as a nod to the Travellers Palm, the emblem of Raffles. All event spaces will also have striking lighting elements and the latest audio-visual technology, to be relevant for today’s social galas and events.

The restoration of Raffles Singapore is supported by award-winning interior designer Alexandra Champalimaud, who has worked on numerous restoration projects around the world.

In reference to the new Jubilee Ballroom, Alexandra said, “We have included sophisticated Victorian details whispering to the heritage of the space along with nods to Singapore’s culture. In order to tell the legacy story of the theatre, we added finely curated motifs and techniques that speak to its history, along with iconic lighting elements to provide an added layer of luxury. Stunning chandeliers and signature gold Venetian light fixtures with elegant coffers, which light the room beautifully, can be found within the space along with custom upholstered wall panels that speak to Singapore’s culture.”

“We are pleased to share these updates, designed to keep Raffles Singapore relevant and distinctive to our guests while providing a new level of excitement with sublime experiences. At the same time, careful consideration has been taken to ensure we retain the ambience and what is unique to Raffles Singapore,” Christian added. “In the meantime, we are committed to deliver a level of service and comfort that is expected of us for areas of the hotel that remain open.”

Phase Three of the restoration will commence on 13 December 2017, when the hotel will be fully closed. Raffles Gift Shop will move to a temporary location along Seah Street and remain open throughout.

“CONFESSION” dons a new race at Delhi Shorts International Film Festival 2017

Delhi, 27th October,2017: Confession, a 20 min short film of a teenage boy who discovers a new life before death written and directed by two friends Indresh Singh and Rishab Nayan. The film which has been nominated and will be screened in Delhi on Sunday along with 105 entries from all over the country at the 6th Delhi International Film Festival 2017.

‘Confession’, one of the shortlisted films, explores the reason behind suside and talks about the psychological matrix and torture faced by the youngsters in today’s generation. The movie focuses on teenage boys who are same yet different in living a life with their own perspective. “The issue concerned us because we often see our friends going through extreme depression phase due to heart-break and at the same time people like us with some disorders are perusing the happiness within,” says Indresh Singh, Director of the movie.

Produced within a shoe-string budget from their own pocket, students from Maharaja Surajmal Institute of Technology, Delhi took up different roles to help them in making this film a great success. “With zero budget, less equipment and limited man power, we faced a lot of problems during the film making process, but standing here along with the other competitors is a moment of success itself,” Says Writer and a Producer Rishab Nayan.

The computer science engineers and director, Indresh Singh and Writer Rishab Nayan are creative thinker and filmmaker. With a conceptual minds aims to mark there feet in the film industry as a Director with an innovative concepts.

Chennai: 30 October 2017 – Singapore Fashion Week 2017 MDIS School of Fashion and Design and Blum & Co. debut a new fashion line, BLUMEX for young executive women. This is the first time that designs from the MDIS School of Fashion and Design will launch commercially, through a collaboration with Blum & Co.

Alongside the BLUMEX collection, graduate designers from the MDIS School of Fashion and Design and Nottingham Trent University, UK will also showcase a 60-piece fashion collection themed “Shades of Millennials”.

4th MDIS Graduation Fashion Show at Singapore Fashion Week 2017

The 10 aspiring graduate designers from China, Korea, Taiwan, Japan, and Cambodia drew inspiration from their personal experiences and delivered a cultural interpretation of how millennials view the world through their collections (see Factsheet for full descriptions).

Some outstanding collections from the graduate designers include:

  1. Glow in Age” by Jeon Eunha (Korea) – designed for women in their 50s and 60s with a focus on colour and unique prints, the collection seeks to redefine ageing by shifting conversation to personality and individuality.

  1. Quintessence of Chinese Culture” by Wang Shijia (China) – a modernization of culture and tradition in today’s world, the collection takes inspiration from the meaning of different colours in a Beijing opera, a quintessence of Chinese culture with a play on a myriad of colours as the defining theme.

  1. The Strength in Pain” by Jack Shih (Taiwan) – a reflection of the growing pains of life’s ups and downs. Inspired by a phoenix arising anew from its ashes, Jack’s designs follow a journey to greatness; from a darkish beginning to bursts of colours, with all six designs hitting the runway chronologically.

“Our showcases at Singapore Fashion Week exemplify our aim to nurture the next generation of creative, industry-ready and forward looking talent. The industry collaborations with fashion leaders like Blum & Co. has given our students the full breadth of real-world hands-on learning experiences; from conceptualization-to-realization. BLUMEX: Empowering Young Female Executives through Fashion

Between April and June 2017, Year 2 degree students in Fashion Design from MDIS worked with Blum & Co. to conceptualise and create ready-to-wear womenswear for young working professionals, while students from Fashion Marketing and Branding developed marketing strategies to promote the new line, including effective retail layout and displays, and revamping existing and new retail outlets.

“Blum & Co. was at a point of inflection; we knew we needed to innovate to keep ahead of the retail evolution and so, BLUMEX was borne. We are proud to partner with the MDIS School of Fashion and Design to foster real-world, industry experience for students. Designed for the modern Asian women of today, each piece for BLUMEX exhibits feminine empowerment. The collection presented by designer Rocky Star was a blend of old-world charm with new-age magic in the manner of dramatic silhouettes, decorative prints and bold designs. Models Laxmi Rana, Sonalika Sahay, Candice Pinto, Deepti Gujral, Donna Masih and others dazzled the stage and mesmerized the audience as they walked the ramp showcasing the work of the designers. While designer Mandira Wirk presented her ‘Pastel Romance’ collection with each outfit carefully detailed and accessorized with hypnotic colours, ambitious designs, yet minimalistic esthetics; designer Samant Chauhan’s collection was an ode to the blank canvas, to total art, to self-actualization and to free art that one can see from the streets as well as to all those metaphors for life and light.

ANAHEIM, Calif. (BLIZZCON 2017) – Razer, the leading global lifestyle brand for gamers, today announced the Razer Naga Trinity gaming mouse and Razer Tartarus V2 gaming keypad. The customizable mouse and keypad can adapt to a wide range of games and playstyles, particularly Multiplayer Online Battle Arena (MOBA) and Massive Multiplayer Online (MMO) games.

The Razer Naga Trinity, the ninth iteration of the best-selling Razer Naga family, is a modular mouse featuring three interchangeable side plates. When using the 12-button configuration, gamers will have up to 19 programmable keys for customization.

The Razer Naga Trinity also comes equipped with an improved sensor over its predecessors, featuring a 5G, true 16,000 dots-per-inch (DPI) optical sensor with 450 IPS for faster and more accurate mouse movements.

For even greater game control at your fingertips, gamers can also own the Razer Tartarus V2. The new ergonomic gaming keypad has 32 fully programmable keys (seven more keys than its predecessor) and features Razer’s Mecha-Membrane key technology that offers both a soft, cushioned touch and a crisp, tactile click with each keystroke.

Users can further expand commands with the eight-way directional thumbpad and three-way scroll wheel, enabling full reign of movement and endless spell combinations. Existing commands may be doubled using Razer’s Hypershift mode, which opens a secondary set of commands for macros, windows shortcuts, and everything else that can be layered on top of your current settings. Multiple personalized gaming profiles can be created and saved in the cloud via Razer Synapse 3 (Beta) Cloud Storage.
